The estate from the air, with its beach club, kayaks and loungers on Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay, Akumal

Akumal Beachfront Villa

A thirteen-suite estate on Half Moon Bay, Akumal, where a private chef cooks every meal and a full household staff keeps the day running. Sleeps up to fifty-two, and the L-shaped pool, the rooftop terrace and the private beach club are all yours.

The way we see it

Akumal means "place of turtles" in Mayan, and the reef that gives Half Moon Bay its calm water is the same one the turtles still graze. The bay sits thirty minutes south of Playa del Carmen and twenty north of Tulum, which is close enough to reach both and far enough to hear neither. What the estate gives you is a house rather than a room. Thirteen suites open onto shared spaces that work like a private resort, and the day runs on your schedule because there is a full staff making it run.

Why we recommend it

Thirteen suites is a number that changes what a trip can be. A family that usually splits across three hotels sits at one table. A company off-site keeps its sessions and its evenings in the same place. A wedding party wakes up together.

And the chef is included in the rate, for every meal, which is the part that surprises people most when they compare.

What you'll experience

An L-shaped pool of fifteen hundred square feet with a wet bar, a rooftop terrace with views in every direction, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a media room for the afternoon someone wants shade.

The bay is protected by reef, so the water stays calm for snorkelling, kayaking and swimming at sunrise. The beach is steps from the terrace.
