The way we see it
Spearfishing is the sea on its own terms: one breath, one descent, one honest shot. A professional guide takes free-divers along the reef line where the hunting is legal and the water is clear, twenty minutes from Playa del Carmen. You come back with dinner you earned a meter at a time.
Why we recommend it
The guide is the difference between a swim with a speargun and actual spearfishing: species, depths, technique and the rules of this coast, taught in the water.
What you'll experience
A short run to the reef, a briefing that actually matters, and then the quiet part: breath, descent, wait. Whether the box comes back full is up to the sea, the learning comes back full either way.
Three private formats: a four-hour half day, a full eight hours with a break to eat, and the blue water trip, the same eight hours pointed away from the reef for pelagics like mahi-mahi, yellowfin tuna and wahoo.
Before you leave the dock, the guides walk you through freediving fundamentals and spearfishing technique, and they stay with you in the water the whole time. It works for first-timers and for experienced spearfishers: the reef and the area are chosen for your level and the day's sea, and what comes back in the box is up to the ocean.

What's included

Comfort in open water, yes; the guide adapts depth and pace to your level. If you're new to it, the half day is the best place to start.
